In the gallery: BROOK TATE EXHIBITION

Currently showing in the main gallery, the work of St.Leonard’s born artist Brook Tate showing a collection of fine art portrait paintings alongside his original concept - “Multicolour Maths” - a new method designed to strengthen skills in mathematic foundations using only ten colours and three shapes.

Despite having struggled greatly in traditional methods of education himself, Brook has recently presented the concept to the British Society of Mathematics with an incredible reception. The method immediately opens up the world of maths to those whom previously struggled to comprehend, understand and appreciate it.

From 3rd August - 6th October 2024 Brook Tate's colour calculations in paint, ceramic and portraiture will be exhibited in the gallery alongside the release of his first publication which teaches the method to all ages by inviting them to complete equations in a unique colouring book.

The exhibition also has the aim of sharing the art of any and all who have learnt how to calculate in colour, inviting them to display their own calculations at Stella Dore Gallery.  The aim being that the collaborative wall will grow throughout the exhibition and spark discussions on how systems of education can evolve.

Please contact brook@multicolourmaths.com to book in for the workshop. Stella Dore Gallery is open for walk ins on Thursdays 12-5pm and Saturdays 12-6pm. Alternatively please contact the gallery stella@stelladorestore.com to arrange an appointment, to discuss mural commissions or art purchases.

About Stella Dore

Stella Dore Gallery was launched in 2007 in the Truman Brewery in Brick Lane by Steph Warren, former office manager of Pictures on Walls - the subversive screen print studio that produced exhibitions and prints under the instruction of Banksy and helped launch the careers of some of the biggest artists of today such as Space Invader, David Shrigley & Jamie Hewlett.  Steph discusses this turbulent time in a podcast for Radio 4/BBC Sounds called “The Banksy Story”.   After the first Stella Dore was swallowed up by the credit crunch (or as it later became known, the Global Financial Crisis), Steph returned to her home town of Hastings, working for the typography artist Ben Eine, painting shop shutters and large scale murals and assisting him on  gallery exhibitions in United States and Europe.

Stella Dore Gallery relaunched in St Leonards on Sea in 2018 and has produced many exhibitions, working with an eclectic array of street and contemporary artists such as Sara Pope, Dotmasters, Pablo Allison, Shuby, Dave Buonaguidi and others.

Alongside the exhibitions, Stella Dore produces mural commissions and street interventions and is always up for new adventures in art.

The gallery also serves coffee (caffeinated and adaptogenic) and occasionally has cake.  It’s a guaranteed art solace!

We are open for walk ins on Saturdays, 11am-5pm or get in touch to arrange a weekday appointment.
